Cowan House is an independent, co-educational preparatory school for boys and girls from Grade RRR to Grade 7. Conveniently nestled in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, our school offers boys and girls the space and opportunity to explore as children, excel as pupils and grow into well-rounded individuals.
Established in 1948, on a solid foundation of traditional values and a shared love of learning, our school nurtures, equips and inspires children to reach for the stars and to be all that they can be.

Welcome to Cowan House, where every child is valued as a unique individual and we strive to nurture their growth in a supportive and stimulating environment. As the 7th headmaster at the school, I am excited to be part of a community that encourages children to explore, question and develop their passions and excited to partner with our families on this educational journey. At Cowan House, we focus on providing a balanced, holistic experience—academic excellence is complemented by a strong sporting, cultural and music programme, where every child has the opportunity to shine and learn something new.
Our promise is to foster not only academic and sporting or cultural achievement but also and perhaps more importantly, character, confidence and self-belief. Through a thoughtful, considered curriculum, we guide our pupils to be their best selves, ready for the challenges of Senior School and beyond. Our Christian values and family-oriented atmosphere help create a foundation for lifelong learning and growth in knowledge, spirit and friendship.
